Citizen Science Volunteer Resources
for the Harbor Porpoise Project - Burrows Pass

burrows pass

This page has updates for citizen science volunteers working on the harbor porpoise project.

Pacific Biodiversity Institute thanks the many volunteers who have helped us with observations at Burrows Pass. And special thanks go out to our past Volunteer Coordinator, Sue Ehler.

Downloadable Instructions and Forms for Taking Observational Data

These data forms and procedures are collected here for your convenience. They may be updated and the date of the current version is given below. Please note that you can now schedule your observation times on our new volunteer calendar!

image Porpoise Observation Protocol (2015 April 21). This document includes the equipment you will need and describes the grid and observational procedures. Pictures are included in the document to help identify the grid as well as some behavior and helpful hints for tracking porpoises. This includes all the info you will need for your observations.

image Blank Form to Collect and Submit Observational Data (2016 Feb 24). This is the observation form. Download and save a blank copy to your computer so you can print out more copies to bring to the observation site. Use another copy to enter the data and use the ‘save as’ function to save the file with the date and your name as the filename (eg 080414ObserverLastName).

image Directions to Washington Park and Burrows Pass. This is a word document with directions and maps to Washington Park and Burrows Pass.

Thank you for your help!
